Radon Testing

Radon Testing

Before buying a Residential or Commercial property in Georgia or South Carolina, have AT Inspect LLC complete a professional radon inspection.

Radon: Why is it important to test for this?

Most people are unaware of how truly dangerous Radon is.  Below are some of the risks posed by Radon:

  • Radon poisoning is the No. 1 cause of lung cancer after tobacco, according to the American Cancer Society.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that radon causes more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year.
  • Radon is a radioactive gas that you can’t see, smell, or taste. You MUST do a radon test to know if it’s in your home.
  • The EPA estimates that one in every 15 homes in the U.S. has elevated levels of radon, and the homeowners don’t even know about it.

The EPA recommends testing for radon before buying or selling a home. You may want to test every couple of years as well, since radon levels fluctuate. When AT Inspect LLC is conducting your home inspection or your commercial building inspection, we can set up a radon detector in the building. This detector will take hourly readings of the air for the next few days. We will then use the information collected during these readings to calculate the average radon levels inside the building. Any building with an average of 4 pCi/L or over is dangerous. The good news is that there are several forms of very effective remediation and mitigation.
